Hey now! Get your mind out of the gutter. I am still a lady, ya’ know. However, there is a trend I am LOVING the more I see it. And it’s a matter I am in need of resolving some time soon.
I’m talking petticoats, my friends! Probably one of the few underthings that get to peek out from under your gown. What am I loving? Bright-colored petticoats that give a flash of color form under your gown.
So cute! However, my challenge is finding the right kind of petticoat. Yeah, I’m getting a little seamstress talky. Honestly, I do NOT love hoop skirt slips. I tried one on with my wedding gown and I believe it is not meant to have a hoop skirt despite what the wedding gown consultant insisted. I thought it made my dress look tube-y. Plus it make me feel super restricted in it. I want to be able to jump and skip and hop in it and I didn’t feel like I could do that with the hoop skirt they gave me to try on.
There is a crinoline skirt which is super fun and fluffy. And they’re way lighter than a hoop skirt. However, I’d be worried about it just bunching in place from the weight of the dress. Either way, I don’t think it would be enough or might even be too much. Because crinoline are just lots and lots of layers of tulle…which…is kind of what my dress is already. Layers and layers of tulle…But then! I stumbled upon this!
This is a hoop/crinoline, but plays off on a gown that has a train. And I realized, “hey wait. The other ones weren’t catering to a gown with a train and…mine has one!” So this could work. But what about when I pin up my train after the ceremony? Because then I’d have to worry about our first dance and my dress getting in the way.
Ah…so many angles to think about. Any seamstresses out there to give their opinion?
